3/31/2020: It was just over a week ago that I reached out to Dr. M Saud Anwar, our Connecticut State Senator and a pulmonologist to say that I thought my company, Ardent Displays & Packaging could design and manufacture a plastic face shield for medical personnel. Dr. Anwar had posted a photograph over the weekend showing a physician wearing a plastic bag as a shield. He went on to challenge local entrepreneurs to respond to critical PPE (personal protective equipment) shortages.
That same weekend Chris Meyer, an Ardent colleague, had sparked the same challenge by texting me that he thought we had the capacity to make face shields. Within hours a group of designers and engineers began texting ideas and drawings. My son Justin Budnick, whose financial planning firm counsels many local doctors, reached out to clients who vetted and improved the proposed design. Production began the next day. To date, over 15,000 face shields have been donated and delivered to area hospitals, health care facilities and local first responders. Many additional hospitals and other health care facilities have begun reaching out and we have committed to supplying them at a reasonable cost.
To accomplish this we are setting up an entire supply chain with raw materials flowing in. This is a fast-moving response with many of our core team working remotely. Because of our unique constellation of companies, we have the ability to design, engineer, tool and manufacture all in house.
We have a focused effort on supporting the needs of both health care providers as well as our traditional retail clients now also in need of protective supplies, from physical shielding to signage. We will be updating this page on a regular basis as additional products become available.
